This consists of an interview, background checks, references, and financial documentation to ensure the overall wellbeing of the prospective adoptive parents and household.

Generally, a home study is required during custody cases in which a family member is involved. Please follow the advice of your lawyer as to whether you need a home study and post placement service.

Any individual who is going to be living within the same household as the prospective child will need to be present during the home study. This includes all children and adults.

Although grandparents may not always be required to have a home study when adopting a grandchild, when the DCF is involved, or the grandchild is out of state a home study is generally required.
